20 Creative Disney Christmas Tree Ideas

There’s something about seeing a familiar Disney character tucked into a Christmas tree that makes the whole thing feel a little more fun. Mickey in a Santa suit? Cute. A tiny Cars tree topped with racing flags? Oh my goodness. And then there are the Toy Story trees, with half of Andy’s toy box seemingly joining in on Christmas.

What I like about Disney Christmas trees is that they’re cute, playful, and full of nostalgia. They give you a chance to decorate around the characters and movies you love, with plenty of room to make the tree your own.

I gathered these ideas from other decorators to help inspire your own Disney-themed tree. Some focus on one character, others mix favorite movies together, and a few work Disney details into more traditional Christmas decorations. You don’t have to copy a whole tree to find something worth borrowing. Sometimes a ribbon pattern, a clever topper, or a few familiar faces are all you need to get started.

Disney Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas

1. A Little Cars Christmas Tree

A small white tree makes the colorful Cars ornaments easy to spot, while red and yellow ribbon carries Lightning McQueen’s colors through the branches. Checkered flags at the top and matching fabric underneath bring in the racing theme without needing a huge collection of ornaments. A little tabletop version like this would be fun for a child’s room or a spot where a full-size tree won’t fit.

2. A Tree Full of Favorite Characters

Dumbo, Tinker Bell, Bambi, and characters from Beauty and the Beast share the branches with other playful ornaments on this collected tree. Your favorites don’t have to come from the same movie to belong together. Leaving some breathing room around the larger ornaments lets you actually enjoy those little faces and details.

3. Disney Ornaments with Classic Christmas Bows

Burgundy and deep green bows give this Disney ornament collection a traditional Christmas feel. If your character ornaments come in all sorts of colors, repeating two ribbon colors throughout the tree helps bring them together. You still get the fun of a Disney tree, with the familiar warmth of a classic Christmas palette.

4. A Stitch Tree in Blue, Red, and White

Stitch’s blue coloring becomes part of the decorating scheme here, with oversized blue ornaments, pale blue bows, and cheerful red accents. Several plush characters make the theme easy to recognize across the room, while their Santa hats bring Stitch right into Christmas. Borrowing colors from your chosen character is a helpful starting point when you’re deciding on ribbon and ornaments.

5. A Toy Story Tree with Buzz at the Top

Buzz Lightyear tops this white tree, with his wings extending outward for a topper that has plenty of personality. Cow-print ribbon and bright ornaments bring Woody and the rest of the gang into the decorating scheme. The stacked alphabet blocks beside the tree are a cute finishing detail that carries the toy theme beyond the branches.

6. A Tropical Moana Christmas Tree

Red, orange, yellow, and white flowers give this Moana-inspired tree a tropical look, with character ornaments tucked among the leaves. The flowers do most of the decorating work here, so you could take inspiration from the movie’s setting even with a small ornament collection. Faux blooms and leafy stems offer plenty of color without relying on traditional Christmas ribbon.

7. Mickey and Friends Meet Peppermint Christmas

Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, and Pluto join oversized peppermint decorations for a tree packed with familiar faces. The red-and-white candy theme gives all those characters a shared backdrop, and repeating it on the nearby mantel connects the two displays. You could borrow that idea on a smaller scale with peppermint ornaments and a few favorite plush toys.

8. A Santa Mickey and Minnie Tree

Santa outfits, oversized white gloves, and Minnie’s polka-dot bows make this tree feel wonderfully cartoon-like. There’s no mistaking the theme! For your own version, repeat one signature detail through the branches, then let Mickey and Minnie figures beside the base finish the scene.

9. A Disney Gingerbread Tree with Pink Accents

Gingerbread Mickey and Minnie decorations bring the Disney theme into a tree filled with peppermint swirls, snowy branches, and soft pink accents. A gingerbread-style castle beside it carries the idea beyond the tree—such a cute alternative to a traditional Christmas village. The touches of pink soften all the red and white while keeping the candy theme going.

10. A Red Cars Tree with Racing Checks

A bright red tree gives this Cars display a bold starting point, with black-and-white checks repeated in the ribbon, ornaments, flags, and tree skirt. Choosing a tree in your character’s main color can make even a small display feel instantly themed. Matching Cars stockings nearby help this little tree fill out its own Christmas corner.

11. Mickey and Minnie with Gold Christmas Accents

Red polka-dot bows and Mickey and Minnie plush toys keep this tree playful, while gold ornaments and warm lights give it a traditional backdrop. Mixing character decorations with Christmas ornaments you already own is a practical way to build a Disney tree gradually. Gold works especially well here because it brings a little sparkle without competing with those familiar red outfits.

12. A Disney Tree for the Whole Family

Ariel, Snow White, Tinker Bell, Stitch, Mickey, and Minnie all have a place on this snowy tree. Broad sweeps of red and green fabric give the different characters a shared Christmas setting. If everyone in the family has a different favorite, this is a fun way to include them all without having to settle on one movie.

13. A Snowy Stitch Tree with Big White Bows

Blue Stitch plush toys stand out against snowy branches, fluffy white bows, and bright red ornaments. Using characters in several sizes gives the tree variety, with larger ones drawing your eye and smaller ones filling the spaces between. Those big white bows are worth borrowing, too—they add softness to a tree with lots of colorful decorations.

14. A Toy Story Tree with a Toy Display Underneath

Cow-print and yellow checked ribbon echo Woody’s outfit, while colorful lights and character decorations bring the rest of the Toy Story gang into the branches. The toys arranged underneath are part of the fun, giving you a way to include favorite figures without hanging every piece on the tree. Before buying more decorations, take a look at the toys and collectibles you already have.

15. A White Tree with Disney Gingerbread Characters

A white tree lets the gingerbread-style character ornaments and pink peppermint balls stand out without much extra decoration. Grouping larger gingerbread figures and Mickey snowmen around the base gives the tree a sweet, playful setting. Keeping the branches relatively open also makes the smaller character ornaments easier to appreciate.

16. A Blue Stitch Tree with an Ohana Sign

Turquoise ribbon, blue ornaments, silver accents, and Stitch plush toys keep this tree focused on one main color family. The glowing “Ohana” sign creates a focal point among all the characters. A favorite word or phrase can help tell the story of your tree, especially when it comes from the movie you’re decorating around.

17. A Toy Story Tree with a Train Around the Base

Woody stands at the top of this tree, with cow-print, yellow checked, and Buzz-inspired ribbon winding through the branches. A toy train circling the base adds another layer of childhood nostalgia. It also gives the bottom of the tree something fun to look at before the Christmas presents arrive.

18. A Mickey and Minnie Gingerbread Christmas Corner

Gingerbread characters, peppermint ornaments, and red-and-green accents fill this white tree, with Santa Mickey and Minnie standing nearby. Coordinating gift boxes and candy decorations along the staircase make the whole corner feel connected. You could recreate that effect with a few matching wrapped boxes and the same ribbon used on your tree.

19. A Slim Toy Story Tree with Forky on Top

Forky makes a funny, instantly recognizable topper for this slim tree, while cow-print ribbon and yellow checked fabric carry the Toy Story theme down the branches. A narrow tree can still hold plenty of personality when its decorations have strong colors and familiar shapes. Spreading those colors and patterns from top to bottom keeps the theme visible throughout.

20. A Minnie Mouse Tree in Red and Pink

Minnie peeks out from a snowy tree filled with pale pink ornaments, red ribbon, peppermint details, and oversized white bells. This offers a softer take on a Disney theme, with a favorite character worked into an already festive color scheme. A few bows or polka-dot accents would be an easy way to carry Minnie’s style through your own version.

Start with the Disney Pieces You Already Love

Before you buy a cart full of character ornaments, look through what you already have. A few Disney ornaments, a favorite plush toy, or figures displayed underneath can give you a starting point.

Then use ordinary Christmas decorations in colors and patterns that suit the theme—blue for Stitch, racing checks for Cars, or cow print and yellow checks for Toy Story.

And if you’re excited about the idea but don’t want to redo your main tree, try a little tabletop tree first. There’s plenty of room for nostalgia on a small tree, too.
